Biographical Notes

Date of birth: April 16, 1930, Duluth, Minnesota

Carol Bly. Author and editor. B.A., English and history, Wellesley College, 1951. Graduate work at the University of Minnesota, 1954-55. Taught at Carleton College, Hamline University, the Vermont Studio Center, Centrum, and the University of Minnesota. Married to author and poet Robert Bly, later divorced. Managed the Fifties and Sixties magazines, as well as the Sixties and the Seventies Press. Writings appeared in Preview (later renamed Minnesota Monthly), the publication of Minnesota Public Radio. Edelstein-Keller Author of Distinction, University of Minnesota, 1998-99. Friend of School Social Work, Minnesota School Social Workers' Association, 1994; honorary Doctor of Humane Letters, Northland College, 1992; Friend of American Writers Award, 1991; Bush Foundation Artists Fellowship, 1991; Minnesota State Annual Book Award, for essays, 1990; Minnesota State Arts Board Individual Artist Grant, 1990; South Dakota Council of Teachers of English Certificate of Honor, 1985; Seabury-Western Theological Seminary Distinguished Christian Service Award; Ramsey County Women's Political Caucus Founding Feminist; and Minnesota Women's Consortium Distinguished Minnesota Leader Award. Authors' Advisory Group, Minnesota Book and Literary Arts Building, 1999; Board of Directors, The Loft, 1991-94; Board of Directors, Episcopal Community Services, 1978-79; workshop designer, Women against Military Madness, National Association of Social Workers, and Midwest Institute of School Social Workers; and consultant to the Land Stewardship Project, 1983-92.
