Thomas DischBiographical NotesDate of birth: February 2, 1940, Des Moines, IowaThomas Michael Disch. Author and poet. Moved from Iowa to Minneapolis as a child. Attended a Catholic military school and a Minneapolis public high school. Moved to New York City after high school and held many jobs, including as a supernumerary at the Metropolitan Opera, in offices and bookstores, on the nightshift for a newspaper, and with a life insurance company. Attended architecture school briefly at New York University. The Double Timer was his first published story, which he sold to the editor of Fantastic Stories for $112.50. Disch dedicated himself to writing, working day jobs to support his nighttime creative work. He has written numerous short stories, novels, and books of poetry. He taught briefly at several colleges and was the 1995 artist-in-residence at William and Mary College in Williamsburg, Virginia.
