Paul GruchowBiographical NotesDate of birth: May 23, 1947, Montevideo, MinnesotaPaul Gruchow. Author, editor, and conservationist. Editor of the Minnesota Daily during his student days at the University of Minnesota, 1965-69. Hired as an aide to Congressman Donald Fraser, 1969-70. News director of Minnesota Public Radio, 1971-72; editor of Minneapolis magazine, 1973-74; and managing editor of the Worthington Daily Globe, 1976-86. He has taught at St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota, 1990-92, and currently teaches in the English department at Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota, and is senior lecturer in Superiors Studies at Wolf Ridge, an undergrauate environmental studies program. Gruchow's writing has been published in Minnesota Monthly, the Great River Review, and other regional publications. Journal of a Prairie Year had its beginnings in a course he taught on the literature of the prairie at Worthington Community College. He is a frequent contributor to the Utne Reader, the New York Times, the Hungry Mind Review and other periodicals.
