Clifford D. SimakBiographical NotesDate of birth: August 3, 1904, Millville, WisconsinDate of death: April 25, 1988, Minneapolis, Minnesota Clifford Donald Simak. Author. Studied journalism at the University of Wisconsin. Editor of newspapers in Michigan, Iowa, North Dakota, and Missouri, during the 1930s. He worked for the Minneapolis Star and Tribune, 1939-76, and became news editor of the Star in 1949. Coordinator of Minneapolis Tribune's Science Reading Series, beginning 1961. International Fantasy Award, 1953 (City). Hugo Award for novelette, 1959 (The Big Front Yard); novel, 1964 (Way Station); and short story, 1981 ("Grotto of the Dancing Deer"), World Science Fiction Convention. Grand Master Award from the Science Fiction Writers of America, 1977, and a Nebula Award for short story, 1980 ("Grotto of the Dancing Deer"), Science Fiction Writers of America. Inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame, 1973.
